Doing ethnographic research has always been a challenge. It seems romantic, and yet it is not.
It appears to be about uncovering 'truth' claims and yet it is about interpretation. It is a process of politics, of representation, of exclusion and inclusion and in the end, it is a matter of presenting ‘partial
truths.’ In South Asia, there is a sense that ethnographic research has been dwindling
in recent times due to a number of reasons. In this general context, an open-ended
workshop on the theme Doing
Ethnography Today will be organized on 1st February 2013 with
the participation of Prof. Gananath Obeyesekere Emeritus Professor of Anthropology,
Princeton University, with the participation of faculty and students of the Department
of Sociology, South Asian University.
The venue is: FSI Hall,
Akbar Bhawan, South Asian University, Chankyapuri, New Delhi - 110021. The seminar will begin at 02.00 pm and will conclude at 05.00 pm.
All interested individuals are
welcome, particularly students at BA, MA, Mpil and PhD levels as well as research
scholars.
